Dr Loyiso Maciko

Health Economist

Dr. Loyiso Maciko is a health economist at the SAMRC Centre for Health Economics and Decision Science-PRICELESS SA with extensive experience in educational and economic research. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Fort Hare and Master’s in Economics and Market Policy from the University of Bologna. He brings over a decade of academic experience to his role having worked at the University of Fort Hare, the Human Sciences Research Council, the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South African Institute for Distance Education and Wits School of Governance.  He has taught a diverse range of courses, Economics for Public Managers, Public Finance, Public Finance and Budgeting, and Statistics, among others Dr. Maciko's research interests is in health economics, particularly fiscal policies for health, comprehensive social security, and commercial determinants of health.

He is the member of the Canadian Alcohol Policy Evaluation (CAPE) Community of Practice (Cape CoP). Moreover, he serves as an advisor to Global Change Investors (GCI), where he leverages his expertise to provide strategic insights. He also contributes to various publications and serves as a reviewer for the African Journal of Economic and Management Studies.
