Short Course in Public Health Law and Human Rights
This short case aims to bridge the gap between public health, law and human rights and to highlight the need for interdisciplinary understandings and solutions to public health issues.
Furthermore, it aims to equip students with the necessary skills to understand the South African health law and policy landscape and to analyse public health policies from a human rights perspective, with an emphasis on health equity and social justice as well as community engagement and participation.
The students of the course will:
Acquire a detailed understanding of the South African legal landscape as it pertains to public health.
Develop the ability to critically analyse and assess public health policies in the South African context.
Demonstrate an understanding of community-centred approaches in the development and implementation of public health laws and policies.
Apply ethical principles in the context of public health law and policy.
Communicate effectively on legal and policy issues related to public health, tailoring messages for different stakeholders.
