Mr Darshen Naidoo

Researcher

Darshen Naidoo is a Researcher in the Law and Policy team at PRICELESS SA – SAMRC/Wits Centre for Health Economics and Decision Science, and an Associate Lecturer at the Wits School of Public Health under the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.

In 2022, he graduated as the top student with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the IIE Varsity College (Sandton campus). In 2024, Darshen completed a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Economic Law from Wits University, wherein he specifically delved into advanced international law, international trade law and international law on foreign investment. His master’s research component looked at “The meaning and role of the ‘pass-through analysis’ in subsidy and countervailing investigations”.

Previously, he has also served as a Junior Researcher in the Water Justice Tracker Project, a collaborative initiative between Wits University and the South African Human Rights Commission that aimed to develop an online, public-facing, GIS-based tool that tracks the progressive realisation of the right to water.

Darshen’s interests include legislative and policy implications on public health, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), health systems and its reform thereof. His intrigue further extends to jurisprudence, economics and political science. Currently, Darshen is expanding on his expertise in healthcare leadership by completing a second master’s qualification, Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Healthcare Management, at Regent Business School.
